The "Deadening" Effect of Photoshop's "Save for Web"

If you’ve ever used Phtoshop’s “Save for Web” function, you already know what this is about. The “Deadening” effect is observed when the color profile of a beautiful image becomes reduced for web use and effectively sucks the life out of the image. Luckily, there’s a cure.

The fix is pretty painless and well worth the effort. To compensate for the web-ready process, use Photoshop to heighten your saturation and contrast. I usually take the saturation up by 20 to 30 units and increase the contrast by 15 to 20 units. Once these adjustments have been made, the image will look a bit garish, but hit “Save for Web” and you’ll see that the image will be nicely balanced.
